Essential Questions

1)Each person must post at least 2 attributes of essential questions.  You cannot post the same thing someone else has already listed. 2)  You must post an essential question for your unit. 3) Critique 2 other questions (use postive comments that try to help make a question better).  Do not critique a question that has already been critiqued 2 times.

  22. Awesome question Maria. Great music is timeless. I think because it takes you back to an enjoyable moment in time.

  23. I think that is a good question too Maria. It meets almost all of the qualifications of a good essential question above. I don't think there is always a definite answer to it, and it's defintely a question that sparks the mind to a variety of different possible answers.

  26. @Jerry: I think your questions meets the requirements of an essential question. It doesn't have a specific answer. It is a question where everyone's opinion will be different for the most part.

  27. "In a world where technology is in every aspect of our lives, is there really a need or better yet a desire for the written word in the form of books?" - This question seems a little "wordy," but I think it gets the point across effectively. I think this question is coming up more and more as we move into a "paperless" world. It's something that students of all ages could inquire and gain meaning from.

"What makes art, art?" - Excellent question! In fact, it kind of relates to mine. :) (I'm assuming you mean visual art, though.) Anyway, what's great about this question is that everyone will have a different opinion. It really opens things up for debate and discussion.

  28. How do you measure success? Wow! Good question. I would love to hear an elementary classroom's response to that question. Or a high school classroom's response for that matter. There are unlimited possibilities to that question. Good one.

  29. Thanks for your input Maria. I struggled with the wordiness of my question as well. In your opinion is this question still effective? In a digital world is the paper book still effective? (You all have such awesome, philosophical questions!)

  30. @Jerry Pack That is a great question! It initially seems like it would have a straight forward answer but to really thing about the question and compare your answers to someone else you are bound to have a difference of opinion. Also due to our experiences in life those opinions can change through time.

  31. @sarah2010 Great open answered question. I believe that to answer this question wouldshow what kind of person you are and that is what I love most about this question.

  32. Bridget, What about shortening your question to: "In a world where technology is pervasive, do we need analog books?" I also found a great article, you might want to use as a resource. http://www.ideo.com/work/future-of-the-book
    I love the discussion.

  33. Jerry,
Is it a different question if you ask "What makes a leader great?" Just asking.

  34. I love the art and music questions. They are very open-ended and broad. Good job.

  35. Bridget,

I think it's an effective question regardless. You just may want to word it differently depending on the age group you are teaching.
